With the next presidential election coming up later this year, the support groups are rising fast. Of course, Obama is up for the running for a second term, and he’s got Jay-Z and Will.i.am backing him. They are among a list of other celebrities that include George Clooney, Alicia Keys, and Will.i.am’s Black Eyed Peas member Fergie, all of which may be involved in a future campaign event for the 44th president.
Jay-Z and Will.i.am are known for having endorsed Obama’s campaign in the past, so it is no surprise to see them listed again. Some of Jay’s concerts have even been funded by Obama’s campaign, so their business friendship is clear. In addition, Will.i.am has written a song named after Obama’s “Yes We Can” slogan, of which has quoted the president himself. This track then came with a music video containing various other stars he rallied together to show the garnered support.
All of this sounds great, and it leaves me wondering how these two will contribute the second time around. However, the question that remains is how much does an artist’s credibility have in determining how much of an impact their participation will have in the public’s political views? Perhaps it had an impact the first time, but people’s thoughts towards Obama have definitely changed over the past 4 years.
